The von Schwerin Family

The Schwerins are an old noble family of Pomerania and Mecklenburg.  The line of descent begins at the end of the 12th century with Bernardus, a counsellor in Zverin.

In 1251 Gerhard Schwerin founded the Stolpe line. Later it acquired extensive landholdings in Pomerania. In the 19th century a branch of the family settled in Western Pomerania. In the vicinity of Anklam it acquired so much land that the area was referred to as “Count’s Corner.”
