The von Hahn Family

The von Hahn family is an old noble family of Mecklenburg. First mentioned in recorded history is an Egkehardus Hane in 1230.

From 1337 the Hahns of Mecklenburg were based in Basedow. The particle “von” in the name, as well as the title of count, date from 1802.  The last scion of the Counts von Hahn of Basedow was Franz Graf (Count) von Hahn, who fell in December 1941.  With the death of his father Friedrich Karl von Hahn in 1951 the Basedow line of the family died out.  The family’s property in Mecklenburg was expropriated in 1945 during land reform.
