Manor House Damerow
The Damerow estate, located between Pasewalk and Prenzlau, had been a fiefdom of the von Winterfeld family since the end of the 16th century. In 2006, the descendants of this family succeeded in reacquiring the former family estate including the agricultural land.
In 1835, Ludwig Gustav von Winterfeld commissioned the construction of the extensive farmyard; the manor house was rebuilt in large parts too. A park-like garden was created around the manor house.
The Damerow manor house burnt down in 1945.
Several buildings from the extensive estate yard are extant and are registered listed buildings, such as the large horse stable, the bake house, the distillery, a large granary and a barn. The distillery and the granary have been sold to an architect, and overnight accommodation will be offered in the buildings in future.
Also remarkable is the Damerow boulder stone church, which, built in the 14th century, was already a ruin in the 15th century. In front of the church is a small family cemetery with some preserved graves of the von Winterfeld family.
Nowadays Felicitas Gobbers runs the estate café established by her parents, which also includes a small estate museum where, among other things, the chronicle of the family is displayed and life and work on the former estate is explained. The estate manager´s house, which was in serious disrepair during the GDR era, has now been extended and is inhabited. The old wash house has been converted into guest accommodation.
