Manor House Belitz

A cobbled street, line with old plane trees, leads past stable storage and supervisor’s house to the Belitz manor house.

It was built by rebuilding the old manor house from 1788 to 1906 according to the plans of the architect Paul Korff. The single-storey building with basement owns on the inner courtyard an outside staircase and a sundial above the entrance. A beautiful conservatory is situated on the park side. 2004 the manor house achieved a certain claim to fame as here the TV channel ARD shot the series "Abenteuer 1900 - Leben im Gutshaus" (adventure 1900 – live in the manor house) and “Abenteuer 1927 - Sommerfrische" (adventure 1927 – summer retreat). For these the entire house including furniture was redecorated in the beginning of the 20th century style.

In the 14th century Belitz was owned by the von Buren, Skopingen, Schwetzin, von Hagen, Zapkendorf and Moltke family. In the 16th century there were conflicts between the knights Negendank zu Schwiessel and Schmeker zu Wüstenfelde and since then Belitz is a secondary estate to Vietschow. In the 17th century it was owned by the von Behr, von Levetzow and since 1724 by the von Linstow fam ily. From 1761 to 1781 the estate was property of the von der Kettenburg family, then followed by Baron von Wendhausen, 1848 Carl August Pauly, since 1880 the Glantz family, 1908 Walter Duve and since 1914 until the dispossession in 1945 by the Hübbe family.

1992 Tillmann Bongardt took over the grandfatherly estate in Belitz to start farming. The family moved into a free apartment in the manor house. During the following years, the other tenants moved out and in 1996 the Bongardts were able to buy the house and reconstruct it. Today visitors may go on a journey through time during a guided tour and experience the redesigned rooms. During the summer time one may stay overnight in the house. In the „Leutestube“ coffee and cake is offered and in the „Kontor“ regional specialties.

Also the church in Belitz is well worth seeing. Presumably, the choir and the north sacristy go back to the first half of the 14th century. The three-nave basilica with narrow central nave might be built at the end of the 14th century.
