Manor House Alt Gaarz

Alt Gaarz is located 15 km northwest of Waren-Müritz between the natural parks "Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide" and "Mecklenburgische Schweiz und Kummerower See".




It is beautifully located directly next to the Hofsee. It was built in 1863 on a boulder base as a single-storey brick building with a high corner tower.

According to the "Großherzoglich Mecklenburg-Schwerinsches offizielles Wochenblatt 1847" the estates Lüssow, Augustenruh, and Alt-Gaarz, properties of Gustav Stein, will be divided between the brothers Stein on October, 18th 1847. (Großherzoglich Mecklenburg-Schwerinsches offizielles Wochenblatt 1847 The Official Journal in which the Grand Ducal Court publicised Grand Ducal Regulations and Grand Ducal appointments (ranging for instance from cook to officer, teacher, clergyman, civil servants, doctors)

It was owned by the Greffrath family from 1860 to 1945. After 1945 refugees moved in and later the municipal administration and social institutions. In the middle of the 1990s it was reconstructed by a local company and used it as administration building. After a few years of vacancy it is used for residential and holiday purposes since 2001.
