Manor House Bartmannshagen

The village of Bertrameshagen was first mentioned documentarily in 1321. In the first document the Knight of Schmalensee was alluded to as the feudal lord and first fiefdom holder.

In 1802 Bartmannshagen was a fief of the von Balthasar family, in 1862 of the von Hagenow family. Later the estate came into possession of non-aristocratic owners and in 1898 Arthur Becker purchased the feudal estate Bartmannshagen. He had the representative three-storey manor house in neo-Baroque style built from 1903 on, at the same time stable complexes and a labourers’ house were built. In 1910 the estate was opened to settlements, one part of the estate remained in possession of the Becker family. Arthur Becker died in 1933, the estate went bankrupt in 1937 and had to be sold in a compulsory auction. In 1935 the manor house was used as barracks for theReichsarbeitsdienst. (National Labour Service. The Reichsarbeitsdienst was an institution set up in Nazi Germany as an instrument to combat unemployment) After WWII the manor house and the outbuildings served as a reception unit for infectious diseases, later they were given the status of a hospital. After the political change Bartmannshagen with its manor house and outbuildings was extensively renovated and extended and nowadays does still exist as a hospital.
