Manor House (Castle) Mentin
The place Mentin is located south of Parchim, in the landscape conservation area of the Ruhner Mountains, right next to the Autobahn. A monumental representative manor house is rising on the edge of a small valley.
The estate was owned by the von Pressentin family at the end of the 19th century, later it came into possession of the cavalry captain Arthur Poensgens, who probably also commissioned the construction of this building. During the years of 1912 and 1913, the so-called "Schloss Mentin" was built in the Baroque style with Art Nouveau elements according to plans by the architect Paul Korff. In 1916, the Neuerburg family from Hamburg purchased the estate.
After World War II, the manor house served as a children's home until 1996. A flight of steps and adjoining spacious garden terraces lead from the manor house to the extensive park, which nowadays has unfortunately become overgrown.
After 1996, there were plans to set up a hotel in the manor house with an automobile museum. This plan was abandoned and in 2007 the building still stood empty.
Until 2013, a renovation of the manor house took place. After being used as a museum for a short time, the manor house is furthermore still empty and for sale (as of 08/2021).
Of the former estate yard the distillery and several farm buildings made of boulders and brick remain, some of which have been converted into flats, others are empty.
