Wartin Mansion (Palace)
Wartin lies directly on the border of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg and belonged partly to the province of Pomerania, to West Pomerania respectively. The estate was originally owned by the noble von Blankenburg family. In 1717 Joachim Bernd von der Osten became owner of the estate, followed later by the von Ramin family.
After some changes in ownership the estate was acquired by the Society for the Promotion of Interior Colonization in 1928 and finally divided into 94 smallholdings.
The mansion, a two-storey structure with a forecourt, was erected in the 18th century in the Baroque style. In the 19th century it was rebuilt in the taste of that time, thereby acquiring the Neogothic corner turrets and the entry portal.
Under the Nazi regime the house served as a school for district leaders.
After 1945 the community council as well as apartments were accommodated in the house.
After 1990 the Foundation Collegium Wartinum began to renovate the house in order to save it from ruin. The Foundation’s goal is to make the building of use to the Society of the European Academy and to transform it into a center for art, culture, and science. The palace is occupied by the chairman and the director of the charity. They put on study weekends as well as scientific, artistic, and cultural activities.
