Wilsickow Manor House
Wilsickow lies on the idyllic northern edge of the Uckermark at the border with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In 1466 the knight Henning von Oldenvlyt sold the village to Friedrich and Christoph von Arnsdorf.
The family remained the owners of the village until 1742. In that year Henning Joachim von Holtzendorff acquired the estate. The manor house was probably erected around the middle of the eighteenth century. A two-storey structure with a stair turret was added on the south side around 1850 but was dismantled in 1994. Around 1900 Axel and Cäcilie von Holtzendorff made many improvements. In 1923 Cäcilie had a villa built at a right angle to the manor house as a retirement home for herself, which today is run as “Grandma Lentze’s Coffee House.” On the façade are the arms of the von Holtzendorff family and a Latin inscription on rural life and the pleasure of husbandry. The last owners before dispossession through land reform in 1945 were Dietrich and Ehrengard von Holtzendorff. After 1945 refugees moved into the house; later the municipal office, a cooperative store, a kindergarten, and a medical practice were accommodated there.
Ilsa-Marie von Holtzendorff, the granddaughter of the last owners, and her husband reacquired the estate ensemble in 1994. Since then the entire compound has been lovingly restored. Today a café, restaurant, guest villa, granary offering concerts, and the WunderBAR are open to visitors. Conferences and seminars can also be held here. Near the estate grounds is the burial ground of the von Holtzendorff family.
