Balow Manor House
Balow was first documented in 1341. The house is a half-timbered structure built in the 18th century. A newer addition is attached to the right corner. The buildings were connected to each other at the beginning of the 19th century.
Balow received the European Prize for Village Renewal in 2012; among the reasons given was the fact that the manor house and other buildings that give the town its identity and character were not only extant but meaningfully repurposed. A primary school was located in the house and a new culture and communication center in the former stables.
After a fire in 1736 the village church was rebuilt beginning in 1774.
