Since 1704 the estate had been in possession of the von Bülow family who were a family of old Mecklenburg nobility. During the course of the 18th and 19th centuries the ownership of Klein Kussewitz changed frequently. The last owner, Julius Kuhlenkampff, chose suicide in 1945 when Russian troops marched in.

The manor house in neo-Gothic style was built in the middle of the 19th century by rebuilding an older building. Julius Kuhlenkampff had the manor house comprehensively modernised by the architect Paul Korff; among other things, a hot water system was installed, and the servants' quarters also received running water.

After 1945 the manor house initially served as refugee accommodation, later it was used in the typical GDR manner as a residential house, co-op shop, disco, village pub and restaurant, community office and doctor´s surgery.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the residents moved out and the building stood empty for a while and fell into disrepair. In 2002, new owners were found who restored the manor house and have since used it as a residential building and for events.

The current owners, Karl Matthes and Eylem Kampf, took over the manor house in 2019 and furnished stylish, comfortable holiday apartments for guests.

The hosts Karl Matthes has been an organic farmer since 1991. More than 1,000 cattle graze on his land and 23,000 organic laying hens are kept. Eylem Kampf is a hostess with all her heart. She has a feeling for the special, a great love of good food and interior design as well as years of experience with large and small events.
