Waschow Manor House near Lassan

Surrounding the manor house is a park with some especially old trees. Both buildings stood vacant for many years until they found new owners in 2017.

An article by Tom Schröter in the local newspaper Ostsee Zeitung had this to say on February 20, 2017:

“Olaf (48) and Heike (56) Graffenberger from Berlin want to breathe new life into the Waschow manor house near Lassan in the Vorpommern-Greifswald Administrative District. They have bought the former nineteenth-century lordly seat from the city of Lassan and have also acquired nearby land parcels, including the old estate park, to bring back into existence the original ensemble.

“’We have long planned to spend our twilight years on the Baltic Sea,’ reports Heike Graffenberger, a teacher of German and history. That their choice fell on the manor house in Waschow is down to love at first sight.

“’My husband is a master craftsman and owns his own construction carpentry business in Berlin. And he always wanted to rebuild an old house,’ says his wife. To keep the remaining structure from further harm, the new owners have already undertaken some protective measures on the roof of the manager’s house, on which a tree had fallen.

“When building permits have been obtained, this separate building will first be renovated as a dwelling. Then the owners intend to turn to the manor house, which consists of two parts and is under heritage protection. ‘We can use the manor house as living quarters or holiday rentals. We might also want to set up a therapy center for handicapped children,’ says Heike Graffenberger.”
