Manor House Kummerow near Malchin
The estate Kummerow had, except for brief interruptions, up to 1945 always been the property of the von Maltzahn family (respectively Maltzan).
After the previous building burnt down at the beginning of the 18th century, the district administrator Axel Albrecht von Maltzan had a new manor house built in the Baroque style around 1730. The two-storey building with a central risalit is connected to the corner pavilions by linking blocks. The vast landscape park, which extends right to Lake Kummerow, even nowadays invites visitors for pleasant strolls.
After 1945 the manor house accommodated a school and municipal offices. In 1964, the manor house was renovated, and in 1988, Deutsche Post began to convert the building into a company holiday hostel. The work was stopped shortly afterwards. The manor house then stood empty for 20 years and was left to decay.
In 2012 a new owner was found. The person from Berlin wants to restore the baroque ensemble and make it accessible to the public again as a photography museum.
In the medieval village church coats of arms on the patronage gallery and on grave slabs are reminders of the von Maltzahn family.
