Wittenhagen Manor House near Feldberg
The manor house is a massive Classical-style stucco building erected around 1800. It has two storeys above an elevated ground level with a triaxial, two-storey central projection and mansard roof.
The erection of the house may coincide with that of the church, for which the date of 1758 is given. The builder would then have been a von Tornow, whose family had owned Wittenhagen with short breaks since 1506. Their tenure ended in 1796 when Ernst Felix von Tornow sold the property to Adolf Christian Ludwig von Rhade. The latter leased the estate to Friedrich Stephan Beatus Carl Ludwig von Holstein. In 1838 a Captain von Rhade sold the estate and there were many changes of ownership thereafter: 1843, Carl Heinrich Theodor Holdorf; 1848, Carl Emil Selle; 1871, Heinrich Wilhelm Roeper; 1884, Friedrich Schröder; 1900, Leopold Wossidlo; 1914, Ludwig Wilk; and 1926 Wilhelm Schultz. The last owner was Hans-Joachim von Mellenthin, who was dispossessed during land reform.
After the Second World War the manor house was used by the Farmers’ Committee as housing for refugees. At that time it also accommodated the community administration. After 1947 a primary school with apartments for teachers was set up.
The year 2000 saw negotiations for the sale of the house. In 2004/2005 two apartments were supposed to be ready for biannual occupation by young artists.
