Manor House (Castle) Kartlow

Kartlow Manor was built between 1853 and 1858 modelled on the French renaissance castle of Chambord according to plans by Friedrich Hitzig, the Schwerin court architect.

The builder was Woldemar von Heyden, whose family had lived here from 1292 to 1945.

After WWII the manor house was used for residential purposes, it also accommodated a school hall and the co-op shop, however it gradually fell into disrepair.

Rehabilitation works, which had begun during GDR times, were continued after 1990. Remarkable in the interior of the building, besides many other details from the time of construction, are the preserved murals in the entrance hall.

New owners were found for the manor house, who renovated the interior and exterior of the manor house in keeping with its listed status. In addition, a new wellness and swimming pool area was created, which is attached to the building on the park side. Since the restoration Castle Kartlow is used solely as a private residence.

The estate buildings have also been renovated and are mainly used for horses and accessories.

The extensive park area which was created based on designs by the garden architect Peter Joseph Lenné was established at the time of the castle being built. Due to later uses, the park was unfortunately greatly changed in its structure, however it is nowadays again in a worth seeing condition due to new plantings and professional maintenance.

The castle, the park and the estate complex are private property - privacy is highly valued here and consideration is asked for the residents and their guests.
